                      One of the main objectives of the four year study programme is to provide its students with modern comprehensive high school education based on the latest findings, trends, and approaches in both domestic and foreign education practice.

          The study plan of this programme follows the requirements of the state education curriculum.

          The programme offers broad base of knowledge through a wide range of natural as well as arts oriented subjects. Moreover, students are given the opportunity to acquire and develop their knowledge and communicative skills in two of the following foreign languages: English, German, Spanish, French and Russian.

          The school education curriculum also enables students to acquire knowledge and skills in various facultative subjects. A right combination of compulsory and facultative subjects equips students with a set the knowledge that can serve as a key to the studies at any college or university.

          The main goal of our school is to turn students into knowledgeable and flexible people ready for their university studies, lifelong education and working life.


          Study programme: gymnázium (grammar school) – bilingual section 7902 J 74

          In the school year 2010/2011 a new, English-Slovak bilingual study programme was introduced at our school.

          The programme covers 5 years of study and its main objective is to provide its students with modern comprehensive high school education based on the latest findings, trends, and approaches in both domestic and foreign education practice.

          The study plan of this programme follows the requirements of the state education curriculum for bilingual study. It aims to equip its students with various high-quality competencies acquired through a wide range of natural as well as arts oriented subjects and an adequate competency in the English language, which should enable the students to relatively easily take up their studies at any type of both domestic and foreign universities and colleges.

          The state educational curriculum helps us to achieve the above stated objectives. It grants students the opportunity to acquire a wide base of knowledge in various subjects of general education. Furthermore, students can profile themselves through a selection from a wide range of facultative and optional subjects.

          The first year of the study programme functions as an intensive language preparation, which empowers students´ potential to successfully make their way through specialized subjects taught in English during the following school years.

          The first year of the study programme includes 16 English lessons a week.

            Division of the studies programme in a school year:

           

          Course Book Classes/ English language

          In the first grade the main textbook is Cambridge English Complete PET (Preliminary English Test). Students practice and obtain language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. At next grades they continue with the courses Complete First and Advanced to approach to the level C1 and pass the leaving examination (maturita).

           

          Conversation in English

          The  content of those lessons  is practicing different speaking tasks providing students models various situations, discussions controversial topics, relationships, ethics , religions, social problems, current affairs in society, politics and culture to be prepared for interaction in different cultural and language milieu.

          The objective of the lessons is to (support) develop speaking skills.

           

          Introduction  to Natural Sciences

          The main objective of these lessons is the preparation for studying natural sciences in English to provide basic and general vocabulary in field of natural sciences, to acquire competence to prepare, lead and assess simple experiments.

           

          Introduction  to Social Sciences

          To gain basic vocabulary of humanities our students study non-fiction, work with secondary resources, collect, classify and analyse information.

           

          From the second to the fifth grade our students acquire knowledge according to the curriculum of comprehensive secondary school and the subjects Geography, Mathematics, Biology, History, Civics, Art and Culture are taught partly or completely in English language.

          English lessons have the internal division:

          - Course Book Classes

          - Conversation and supplementary lessons according to option (Creative English, Business Studies)

          At the fifth grade there is an immersion course to pass leaving (maturita) and state exam.

          Lessons´ allocation of English language is sectionalized:

          - Course Book Classes

          - Revision Seminar leaving exam (maturita) seminar

          There are supplementary forms of studying - communication within the frame of international projects Comenius at the 2 – 4 classes.
